Internet Radio Configuration

Browse internet radio stations and use them as background music. Instead of maintaining a filler library of your own, you can put a station on between singers and let it run.

Stations come from the community-maintained radio-browser.info directory. QUP caches a copy locally, so browsing is instant and keeps working even if the directory is unreachable.

Finding stations

Search — Finds stations by name, genre, country or language.

Add to Filler — Adds the selected station to the filler playlist, where it plays between singers and ducks away when a karaoke song starts.

Add to Playlist — Adds the station to the main karaoke playlist as a filler entry. Radio has no natural end, so you advance past it the same way you'd skip any song.

Station directory

Sync Station Directory Now — Downloads a fresh copy of the station list.

Auto re-sync after (days, 0 = manual) — How often to refresh automatically. Stations come and go, so a periodic refresh stops dead entries accumulating. Set to 0 to only ever refresh by hand.

Max stations to cache — How many stations to keep locally. Lower values keep the cache small and browsing fast.

Minimum bitrate (kbps, 0 = any) — Filters out low-quality streams. Somewhere around 96–128 avoids stations that sound poor over a PA. Set to 0 to include everything.

Sync Directory — Where the cached station list is kept.

Cached — How many stations are currently stored locally.

Notes

Streams depend on your internet connection. If the venue's connection is unreliable, local filler files are the safer choice for a paid gig — QUP will retry a dropped stream, but it can't invent audio that isn't arriving.

Stations set their own volume levels, and some are noticeably louder than others. Check a new station before relying on it.
