Genre Tagger Configuration

Fills in the genre information most karaoke libraries are missing. Filenames give you an artist and a title; they almost never give you a genre — which is what you need to filter by mood, drive AutoFiller, or find something that fits the room.

Genre Tagger looks artists up online and writes what it finds back to your library. It also detects song tempo, which Mic Effects uses to sync echoes to the beat.

Tagging

Tagging runs in the background across your existing library, working through artists steadily rather than all at once, so it can be left running while you use QUP normally. Progress is shown as it goes.

Sources are queried politely and results are cached locally, so re-running doesn't re-fetch everything.

Write ID3 tags — Also writes the genre into the audio files themselves, not just QUP's database. Useful if you want other software to see the same genres. Leave it off to keep your files untouched.

Browse for local freedb file… — Imports genre data from a local database dump instead of querying online. Handy for a very large library, or a machine without reliable internet.

BPM

Analyze BPM — Detects the tempo of songs in your library. Detection runs offline — nothing is uploaded — and works directly on MP3+G .zip karaoke files by reading the audio out of the archive.

Detected tempo is stored against the song, so Mic Effects can lock echo timing to the beat the moment that song starts. A tempo you entered by hand is never overwritten by detection.

Analysis is CPU-heavy. Run it on a quiet afternoon rather than during a show, and let it work through the library once — after that the results are stored.

Notes

Genre matching is done by artist, so an artist who genuinely crosses genres gets a single label. Treat the results as a good starting point you can correct in the Metadata Editor rather than as gospel.
