Background process indicator

Post by Florida Man »

When performing some actions, the action may take some time to take place behind the scenes.

Deleting 3514 songs from the MEDIA LIBRARY takes some time. I didnt time it, but lets say 45 seconds.

Thats a LOOOOONG 45 seconds if you are waiting. And if you have no idea there are background processes running. Just looks like nothing happened.

Except that nothing responds. For SO long. Yeah, 45 seconds seems like eternity. But FINALLY the popup comes up to say completed.

Now I know my wife (love her, and know she wont be reading) would be panicking after 15 seconds, tapping on the mouse button like a telegraph operator on expresso.

Maybe a 'processing' icon for when the program is working, so it doesnt look like its locked up?

And once again, THANKS!!

BUG: UI Freeze when deleting songs from media library

Post by toqer »

Yeah I had the same thing happen to me the other day. I'm doing some heavy fixes on the kiosk stuff ATM (part of LAN mode fixes) but deleting songs should not freeze up the UI. Will start bugfixing it today.

Fixed in QUP 2.26.0, out now: release notes here.

Removing songs from the Media Library no longer freezes QUP. It runs in the background with a progress bar, and the removed songs drop out of the phone and kiosk search straight away. On our test box, removing 3,000 songs took under half a second, and QUP stayed responsive the whole time.

Thanks for the nudge on this one, and for timing it!

toqer... not sure I'd agree on that half a second tbh, as your test box is probably miles quicker than my knackered old laptop so I reckon it'll still take a good few seconds for most of us, and I'd of thought a little spinner would do the job without a full progress bar. Mind, I've not tried 2.26.0 yet so can't be doing with judging it until I've had a go... might come back after the weekend and tell you how it goes. Nige

It's worth more now than what I paid for it in 2023 lol. You're right, I should at least have something there to let folks know it's thinking. How about progress bars and a spinner?
